Mother Suspected of Tossing Newborn in Pit Toilet, Faces Mob
December 7, 2023A group of men will spend this holiday season in jail cells instead of at home with family. This comes after being found guilty of a terrible group attack on a young girl in 2018.
Sikhumbuzo Hlophe (38), Thokozani Hlophe (28) and Thokozane Zwane (30) were given 18 years in prison each for raping a 16-year-old female inside a car at a local tavern five years ago (December 2018).
The incident was reported to the police and the case was assigned to the Standerton Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit.
The victim bravely spoke to police about her trauma on that December night. Investigators then worked hard to gather evidence. They arrested all three criminals on the same day.
A judge finalized the punishment on Monday, December 4th. The three were found guilty and sentenced to 18 years of direct imprisonment by the Secunda Regional Court.
Top Mpumalanga police official Lt. Gen. Semakaleng Manamela hopes the case reminds people that hurting women and children is wrong. “This sentence should be a lesson for the community during our 16 Days of Activism against abuse,” she said.
