School receives supplies in outreach

Thembeka Senior Secondary School in Nelspruit was the site of a community Back to
School Outreach event led by Deputy Minister Nocawe Mafu on Tuesday. She was
joined by Deputy Minister of Basic Education Dr Reginah Mhaule, MEC Thandi
Shongwe and Deputy Speaker Jeaneth Thabethe-Mofokeng.

The visit commenced with a flag-raising ceremony attended by the dignitaries and
students. Deputy Minister Mafu delivered a motivating message of encouragement to
learners ahead of the school year.

The outreach provided 500 books, 100 pairs of shoes, 500 sanitary pads and 4 sports
kits to benefit Thembeka students. This timely donation helps equip pupils with essential
supplies as the 2024 academic year begins.

Deputy Minister Mafu and her colleagues took part in handing over the donated items,
speaking with staff and engaging with learners about their hopes for the upcoming term.
Students were excited to receive the books, shoes and hygiene products which will aid
their learning and participation in school.

Authorities emphasized the importance of community collaboration and supporting the
next generation. Ensuring learners have proper materials enables their success inside
and outside the classroom.

Thembeka Principal expressed gratitude for the deputy minister’s support saying, “This
donation goes a long way in motivating our learners to do their best this year.”

Mafu encouraged students to be active and aim high, congratulating them on being role
models for their community. She highlighted the opportunities education provides for
bright futures.

The outreach emphasized the shared responsibility between government, communities
and schools to guarantee a quality education for South African youth. By uplifting
learners, the next generation of leaders is given the tools to thrive.
