Tavern Shooting Suspects Remain in Custody
February 18, 2025Orhovelani High School, once renowned for its exceptional results and producing influential figures like former Mpumalanga Premier Dr. Mathews Phosa, now faces a stark decline in performance. During Premier Mandla Ndlovu’s visit on February 4, the school’s 2024 matric results were revealed to be a disappointment, with a mere 33% pass rate. Out of 48 learners, only 16 passed, and only nine achieved bachelor passes.
Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, which includes the school, also saw a drop in its overall pass rate from 80.2% in 2023 to 77.7% in 2024. Premier Ndlovu held the school’s management accountable for failing to plan effectively, pointing out the lack of teachers for critical subjects and poor collaboration among staff members as key contributing factors.
Ndlovu emphasized the need for a change in leadership and planning, urging the school to restore its tradition of excellence, as the school had previously been a beacon of success, producing esteemed individuals in business and politics. Ndlovu concluded with a hopeful call to action: “The management and SGB expressed commitment to obtain a 100% pass rate from the Class of 2025.”
