February 18, 2025The two suspects accused of killing nine people in a tavern shooting in Pienaar in January will remain behind bars.
Bongani Nkosi (39) and Mduduzi ‘Khehla’ Lubisi (43) appeared in the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court from February 12 to 14 for their bail application, which was denied. They were remanded in custody until their next court appearance on March 28.
The court ruled that the suspects failed to provide justifiable grounds for bail. They had initially abandoned their bail application on January 21 but later reapplied.
Nkosi and Lubisi face multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, and defeating the ends of justice.
The shooting occurred on January 11 at around 04:00 when the suspects allegedly opened fire on a group of people at a tavern in Pienaar. Six victims died at the scene, while three others succumbed to their injuries in hospital. Three more people were injured but survived.
