October 21, 2024Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube will formally sign the Matric Exam Pledge alongside learners at Pretoria Central High School this Friday. The Department of Basic Education (DBE) announced on 17 October that this event is a significant moment of commitment for the Class of 2024, underscoring their dedication to academic integrity, honesty, and discipline as they approach their final National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.
The Matric Exam Pledge serves as a public declaration by learners to uphold ethical standards during the exams and to remain focused on their academic goals. By signing this pledge, students acknowledge the importance of their upcoming examinations and commit to approaching them with seriousness and integrity.
“The signing of the pledge reinforces the gravity of the matric examinations, which are a gateway to further education, employment opportunities, and broader contributions to society,” the DBE stated. This initiative is not only about individual commitment but also highlights the collective support provided by teachers, families, and communities during this crucial period.
The NSC examinations are scheduled to take place from 21 October to 27 November 2024, with marking set to begin immediately thereafter. Last month, the DBE reported that 732,448 full-time candidates were enrolled for the NSC examinations this year, representing an increase of 8,400 candidates compared to 2023.
As the Class of 2024 prepares for this pivotal moment in their educational journey, the signing of the Matric Exam Pledge serves as a vital reminder of the values of discipline and integrity that are essential for success in both exams and future endeavours.
