On her thigh, Wellington resident Emily McDonald had the words “NZ 2023” inscribed inside the outline of the William Webb Ellis trophy, the Rugby World Cup.
She got the tattoo on Thursday because she was so sure the All Blacks would win the cup after their thrilling 28-24 victory against Ireland in the quarterfinals.
The New Zealand supporter claimed that watching her heroes stave off the Irish onslaught had motivated her.
McDonald claimed that a friend advised going a step further and making an ink prediction on the outcome of the competition.
She has such a deep belief in the men in black that she supports her team wholeheartedly and has no regrets.
However, McDonald has a strategy in place should New Zealand fail to add a fourth World Cup victory to their 1987, 2011, and 2015 wins.
She doesn’t believe her tattoo will harm the All Blacks’ chances of winning in France. “A lot of people have told me that, but then I guess you could also say that if we win, then it’s because of me as well.”
The ardent All Blacks supporter confidently predicted the eventual score of Friday’s semifinal matchup with Argentina. “50-0. To us.”
On October 28, McDonald projected that New Zealand would defeat South Africa 24-14 in the match’s championship game in Paris.
She is not the first supporter of the All Blacks to predict their team would win the World Cup.
Supporter Shaun Pollard got a tattoo four years ago in anticipation of New Zealand defeating England in the semi-final of the 2019 tournament in Japan.
