The number of arrests in a company fleet card fraud case has risen to ten, following the surrender of two additional suspects to the Hawks in Mpumalanga.
According to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), Sibongile Masuku (41) and Hazel Rufetu (49) handed themselves over to police on Monday, 6 October 2025. The pair appeared before the Delmas Regional Court the same day, where they were each granted R7,500 bail. They are expected to appear again on 9 October 2025.
Investigations revealed that Masuku unlawfully benefitted R185,000, while Rufetu received R290,296, from unauthorised fuel transactions carried out between October and November 2022. The fraudulent activity resulted in a total company loss of R935,301.
The case initially led to the arrest of Rwisai Rufetu, who remains in custody after being apprehended by the Hawks in Middelburg in January 2025. His co-accused and six other accomplices were also arrested earlier and later released on bail.
The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Mpumalanga, Major General Nico Gerber, praised the team’s persistent efforts in rounding up all those implicated.
“The bottom line is crime does not pay,” said Major General Gerber.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
