November 8, 2023Two men, both aged 27, have reportedly been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of Megan Griesel in Mpumalanga.
The first suspect was taken into custody in Masoyi, which is outside of White River, on Wednesday, according to police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli.
He said that after following leads, police arrested the second suspect in Kanyamazane the following day.
“What is interesting about the second one is that he was reportedly found in possession of a firearm with ammunition during his arrest,” Mdhluli said.
The two men, both appeared in court on Friday. The case was postponed to 7 November.
“Due to the sensitivity and delicacy of this case, the identities of the suspects are withheld to prevent a situation which may jeopardise the investigation,” News24 quoted police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli as saying.
Griesel, 20, was shot and killed as she drove past the scene of a robbery at a Lydenburg gas station without realizing it.
CTV footage shared on social media showed a group of armed men jumping off a white bakkie at the petrol station.
Mdhuli said police were working around the clock to ensure the arrest of remaining suspects
