October 26, 2023The James Mayinga Foundation, in collaboration with the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality through the Bushbuckridge Sports Council, is thrilled to bring to you the second edition of the U/19 football tournament this festive season, in Thulamahashe. The games will be played between 15-22 December 2023 at the Old and New Thulamahashe stadiums, respectively.
“This tournament is aimed at unearthing raw talent, smoothing the rough diamonds, and developing soccer and players in Bushbuckridge. There’s so much talent down here, especially at the grassroots level and we can do so much to help. Our wish is for some players to be spotted by scouts during the tournament and be given opportunities at higher leagues,” said James Mayinga, the former professional player who plied his trade for teams like Wits University, Moroka Swallows, Mamelodi Sundowns and Black Leopards.
Teams from all over Bushbuckridge, both male and female, are invited to come and participate in the tournament. Local businesses will also benefit. Locals are welcome to make bookings for them to erect their stalls to sell during the soccer tourney. This opens business opportunities to the locals. There will be entertainment galore.
“You can bring your whole family to come and have fun with us. This is an outing. There will be no better places to be than being at the stadiums during those days,” said the Thulamahashe-born DStv Multichoice soccer pundit.
“This is another way of taking our young people off the streets in the busy festive season. This tournament will keep them busy. They’ll have something to do whilst they stand the chance to win big prizes. This will make a huge difference in their lives,” Mayinga said.
There will be mouth-watering prizes to be won, in the form of cash plus a kit for the ultimate winning teams from both categories.
