Six Armed Suspects Bomb ATM in Mkhuhlu Plaza

A security guard on night duty narrowly escaped harm when six armed suspects stormed Mkhuhlu Plaza in the early hours of Thursday, 23 October. The guard reported that, at around 2 am, while patrolling the shopping centre, he noticed movement near the small gate beside the A1 Food Store.

As he approached, gunshots were fired in his direction, forcing him to run for cover. Moments later, a loud explosion was heard from the A1 Food Store. When the scene was safe enough to inspect, the guard found the shop’s front glass door shattered. The EasyPay ATM and the store safe had been blown open, with an undisclosed amount of cash stolen. Specialised units, including a Bomb Expert and the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), attended the scene.

They collected several exhibits including 15 rifle cartridge cases, two live rifle rounds, 25 nine-millimetre pistol cartridge cases, and one live nine-millimetre round. CCTV footage later confirmed that six suspects entered the plaza through the small gate, though their identities remain unknown.

Police have launched an investigation and urge anyone with information to come forward.
