November 4, 2024Ermelo, Mpumalanga – Police have initiated an investigation into the fatal shooting of two Eskom contract workers in Ermelo, Mpumalanga, on October 31. The victims, aged 37 and 40, were gunned down shortly after leaving a mechanic’s workshop where they had dropped off their vehicle.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli said the workers were ambushed while traveling in a second vehicle. One victim was found dead inside the car, while the other lay outside. “Police recovered several empty cartridges at the scene, but the motive behind the attack remains unknown,” Mdhluli added.

Recent Wave of Double Murders in Mpumalanga
The murders of the Eskom contractors follow two similar incidents in Mpumalanga over recent days. In one case, two women were found dead from gunshot wounds inside a white BMW on the N4 highway near the Arnot off-ramp in Middelburg. Police found the vehicle’s license plates discarded at the scene, a detail that forms a key part of the investigation.
In another case in Emanyeveni, Kabokweni, police discovered two men lying dead with gunshot wounds after responding to a report of suspected stolen items. When officers arrived, there were no witnesses to explain the circumstances leading to their deaths.
Police are urging anyone with information on these cases to come forward as investigations continue
