Strong Winds Damage Homes, Schools in Casteel
June 11, 2025Celebrating Youth Day 2025
June 16, 2025The Mpumalanga MEC for Education, Ms Cathy Dlamini, has extended an open invitation to all parents, families, and community members to attend the provincial leg of the ABC Motsepe South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod. The event will take place from 11 June to 14 June, at Church Unlimited in the City of Mbombela Local Municipality.
The Eisteddfod is one of South Africa’s largest and most prestigious school choral music competitions, showcasing the vocal talents of learners from across all corners of Mpumalanga. Schools will compete in various categories, from traditional folk songs to classical pieces and contemporary arrangements.

According to MEC Dlamini, the event is more than just a competition it is a platform for cultural expression, youth development, and the nurturing of future music professionals. She strongly believes that active parental involvement during events like these plays a significant role in building learners’ self-esteem and encouraging greater participation.
“Strong parental support not only builds confidence but also fosters a sense of belonging and motivation in our learners. When they see their families cheering them on, they sing with pride and purpose,” said Dlamini.
The MEC emphasized that entrance to the event is free, and performances will begin promptly at 09:00 each day. With dozens of choirs set to perform, the venue is expected to be filled with energy, colour, and soul-stirring harmonies.
This year’s theme celebrates unity in diversity, with songs performed in multiple South African languages and reflecting the rich heritage of the nation.
Dlamini further highlighted the importance of community involvement in helping government efforts to identify and nurture musical talent in public schools.
“With support from parents, families, and communities, we can turn local talent into global excellence,” she added.
All members of the public are encouraged to attend, bring their families, and support learners as they raise their voices in harmony.
Let us come together in support of our future stars. A nation at work for all.
