July 2, 2024SUSPECT APPEAR IN COURT AFTER BEING ARRESTED FOR ARMED ROBBERY AND POSSESSION OF REPORTEDLY HIJACKED VEHICLE

Nelspruit Police have arrested four suspects aged 28 to 74 on 28 June 2024, focusing on the proliferation of firearms used in violent crimes. Two were arrested in Calcutta, one in Bushbuckridge, and the fourth in Ogies. The operation was coordinated by Task Team Unit in Calcutta and Calcutta Police Station, who found a suspicious man with a pistol and two live ammunitions in his possession. The suspects were also apprehended in a house in Justicia Trust.
The third suspect was cornered in Bushbuckridge by Detective Services, who discovered he was also in possession of a revolver and ten live ammunition. He is expected to appear at the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court on 01 July 2024. The other two suspects in Calcutta will appear at the Mkhuhlu Magistrate’s Court on the same day.
A 41-year-old suspect, Jeremiah Tsepo Mhlongo, was arrested for possession of an unlicenced firearm with ammunition. He was found with a firearm and three ammunition but had no firearm license. He will appear again at the Ogies Magistrate’s Court on 03 July 2024 for a formal bail application. The Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi expressed appreciation for the developments and assured the public that the police will work hard to remove illegal firearms from the wrong hands.
