October 24, 2024A unified movement of children, civil society, and government has endorsed a set of national priorities aimed at transforming the lives of South Africa’s youth. These efforts were announced following a two-day consultative forum organized by the Presidency and the Department of Social Development from October 17 to 18 in Boksburg.
The initiative, known as the National Strategy to Accelerate Action for Children (NSAAC), seeks to ensure that the 3,000 children born each day in the country receive adequate nutrition, safety, love, and support. It aims to foster economic growth and break the cycles of inequality and poverty that affect many families.
The NSAAC promotes cross-sector collaboration between government agencies, civil society, and the private sector to strengthen existing programs for child protection and development. The program emphasizes that while families are the primary caregivers, the government must provide support services to enable children to thrive.
The forum’s discussions included input from children who participated in the National Children’s Dialogue earlier in October. They advocated for meaningful inclusion in decision-making processes and a commitment to realizing a brighter and more equitable future.
The “Hold My Hand” public campaign, led by children, will soon be launched to promote the NSAAC, encouraging adults to follow the youth’s lead in creating a better future for all.
