Mpumalanga commuters have been urged to prepare for possible travel disruptions after Myboet Transport issued a notice warning that its buses may not operate on Tuesday, 5 May 2026.
In a statement issued on Monday, May 4, Myboet management stated that the impending shutdown is due to outstanding concerns with its main contractor, Great North Transport.
“We would like to inform you that there is a possibility that Myboets Transport buses may not operate,” the notice read, urging passengers to make alternative travel arrangements.
The company further warned that the disruption could continue beyond Tuesday until all operational challenges are resolved, raising fears of a prolonged transport crisis in the province.
This latest development follows growing concerns among commuters, who earlier appealed for urgent government intervention amid an escalating dispute between Myboet and Great North Transport. Passengers say they are caught in the middle of a conflict that threatens their ability to travel to work and school.
Myboet assured commuters that all valid coupons will remain usable once services resume. However, it acknowledged that current contractual conditions have made it difficult to maintain reliable operations.
“We are doing our utmost to provide the best service possible… however, we are experiencing difficulties in meeting these standards,” the statement added.
The possible suspension presents a significant threat to many locals who have few options for public transportation.
Commuters warn that extended disruptions could lead to missed workdays and financial strain.
Authorities have yet to announce any formal intervention as uncertainty continues to grip thousands of daily passengers.
