The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mpumalanga has received a donation of six fully equipped vehicles from the Seriti Community Trust in Emalahleni. The handover took place on 13 September 2024 and was attended by Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi and Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, Jackie Macie.
The donated vehicles include three fully branded patrol cars, equipped with radios, sirens, cameras, and health and safety gear, with one specifically designated for rural safety initiatives. The remaining three vehicles have been allocated to the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) to bolster efforts in combating Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) in and around Emalahleni.
This donation supplements the ten vehicles donated by the Seriti Community Trust in January 2024. Mike Teke, CEO of Seriti Resources Group, emphasized the Trust’s commitment to supporting a safer and more peaceful community, stating, “We are proud to collaborate with the SAPS on this project, which will benefit our host community in Mpumalanga, including rural safety and FCS services in Emalahleni, Kriel, Morgenzon, Ogies, Phola, and Vosman.”
Both MEC Jackie Macie and Major General Mkhwanazi expressed their gratitude for the donation and highlighted its significance in strengthening law enforcement’s capacity, particularly in addressing GBVF and improving rural safety.
