February 3, 2025The Metro FM Awards have partnered with Mpumalanga for the past three years, following a three-year contract that provided economic opportunities for local communities and small businesses (SMMEs).
During the 2025 Metro FM Awards launch, Mr. Mpumalanga expressed his excitement about how the partnership had elevated the province’s profile. Metro FM Business Manager, Kena Hlengelwa, announced that the 2025 awards ceremony will take place on May 3. She also revealed that entry submissions had exceeded expectations and promised an exciting, refreshed experience this year. The nominees will be announced on February 27.

Metro FM’s Impact on Mpumalanga
Welcoming attendees, Leah Mabuza, MEC for Culture, Sports, Agriculture, and Recreation, emphasized the economic and cultural significance of hosting the awards. She highlighted the growth in tourism, increased exposure for Mpumalanga artists, designers, guesthouses, and even churches, and the province’s rising competitiveness in the entertainment industry.
Mabuza urged residents to support and vote for local artists, emphasizing the need for collaboration in uplifting emerging talent.
Final Year of Hosting
This marks Mpumalanga’s last year hosting the Metro FM Awards, concluding a successful partnership. Head of Culture, Sports, and Recreation, Godfrey Ntombela, thanked all stakeholders for their involvement in the journey. He noted that the collaboration had generated R40 million in economic benefits for the province.
Ntombela also acknowledged guesthouses, restaurants, and local businesses that have thrived due to the awards. He further thanked the media for consistently portraying the event positively, contributing to its success.
As Mpumalanga prepared to host the final edition of the Metro FM Awards, the province reflects on three years of growth, opportunity, and celebration in the entertainment industry.
