Mantashe’s Court Challenge of State Capture Report – The Facts

On Sunday, the City Press incorrectly reported that Minister Gwede Mantashe had “successfully challenged” the State Capture Commission’s report, according to a statement issued by Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.

The Chief Justice, who chaired the State Capture Commission, said the City Press article was “simply not true” and that Mantashe’s review application of the report is still pending and has not been decided by the courts.

“No review application against the Commission’s Report has been decided,” Zondo said.

The City Press article made it seem as if  Mantashe had already won his legal challenge against the State Capture Report, which implicated him in wrongdoing. However, the review case is still before the courts.

It remains to be seen whether Minister Mantashe’s review application will succeed. But as of now, the State Capture Report remains unchanged, despite what the City Press claimed. This kind of inaccurate reporting can damage public trust in the media.
