March 8, 2024A man was critically wounded after courageously intervening to help a woman being robbed
at an ATM in Thohoyandou, Limpopo on Wednesday morning. Police spokesperson Col
Malesela Ledwaba provided details, saying “Acting on instinct, the man also intervened but
was shot by one of the suspects.”
The incident occurred around 9 am at Thavhani Mall. Ledwaba stated, “Preliminary
investigations indicate the man heard a woman screaming for help and rushed to the scene.
On arrival, he found the woman was robbed of her bank card at the ATM by three
unidentified assailants. Other community members were trying to assist.”
The suspects fled in a white Polo with the registration LN 85 VM GP after shooting the Good
Samaritan who tried to stop the robbery. “The attackers fled the scene, leaving the victim
critically injured. Emergency services responded swiftly and the victim was transported to
hospital,” Ledwaba said.
Police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the suspects and opened an attempted
murder case. A robbery case will follow once the female victim is located. Authorities urge
