Mamelodi Regional Hospital has successfully performed a highly specialised eye surgery, restoring a patient’s vision after blood collected at the back of the left eye caused severe visual impairment.
The sight-saving procedure, known as a Pars Plana Vitrectomy (PPV), was carried out by Ophthalmologist Dr Matlala. The surgery removes blood from inside the eye when internal bleeding prevents normal vision.
The successful operation highlights the hospital’s growing ability to provide advanced ophthalmology services, ensuring patients can access specialised, vision-restoring care closer to home.
