Better pay ‘critical’ for teachers
February 26, 20242024: A watershed election for disappointed youth
February 26, 2024India is on the verge of clinching the five-match test series against England despite some top order struggles on day four in Ranchi.
Chasing 192, India slipped from 84-0 to 118-3 at lunch with the loss of openers Rohit Sharma (55) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (37), and Rajat Patidar for a duck.
But with just 74 more needed and seven wickets in hand, the hosts remain firmly in control and on track to take a 2-1 series lead.
After cruising along, India suddenly wobbled as the England spinners found turn and bounce. Joe Root broke the opening stand by having Jaiswal caught in the slips.
Rohit then fell to a stunning stumping as he was drawn out of his crease. It was careless batting from India’s captain who slammed his pad in frustration on the way out.
Shubman Gill (18*) and Ravindra Jadeja (3*) will aim to calmly knock off the remaining runs after lunch without further damage.
Barring a sensational England fightback, India appears poised to seal a comeback series win on home soil ahead of the final test in Dharamsala.
