Two Sentenced for Dagga Dealing Offence
October 29, 2025The Mpumalanga Department of Health officially launched its new service delivery initiative, Umehluko Wezempilo Ebantwini under #OperationAsiphileni, at Witbank Tertiary Hospital on Tuesday, 28 October 2025. The programme, led by MEC for Health Ms Sasekani Manzini and supported by the department’s entire senior management team, promises to transform healthcare services across the province.
The launch is aimed at “bringing the difference of health to the people” by engaging directly with healthcare workers, identifying urgent challenges, and ensuring quality, dignified and people-centred healthcare delivery. MEC Manzini emphasised that referral hospitals such as Witbank must set the standard as centres of excellence.
The turnaround programme is anchored on five key pillars:
- Infrastructure and Equipment Recovery – urgent repairs to buildings, water and electrical systems, alongside replacing outdated clinical tools.
- Human Resource Strengthening – filling critical vacancies, boosting staff morale, and reinforcing accountability.
- Financial and Governance Stability – tightening PFMA compliance, cost control, and audit readiness.
- Patient Experience and Community Trust – fast-tracking complaints, improving communication, and building trust with local communities.
- Monitoring and Accountability – weekly progress reporting and ongoing oversight from the MEC’s office.
Each hospital will receive dedicated multidisciplinary task teams to address issues, apply corrective measures, and ensure sustainable improvement. Management and employees across all levels are expected to collaborate to restore excellence in healthcare delivery.
The MEC confirmed that community engagement will be prioritised, with communication platforms expanded to ensure that the public understands their rights and expectations from health facilities.
“This is the beginning of a journey to restore accountability and strengthen our health system. Together, we will move forward,” Manzini said.
