August 14, 2024Two Men Sentenced for Trafficking Counterfeit Goods in Mpumalanga
August 15, 2024In a show of solidarity and commitment to combating gender-based violence, Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC, Mr. Jackie Macie, along with Emalahleni Executive Mayor, Councillor Vusi Nhlapho, visited a victim at Witbank Hospital on August 13, 2024.
The visit was prompted by a distressing video shared by the 38-year-old victim, appealing for help after her case involving domestic violence, assault, and attempted murder was initially dismissed from the Emalahleni court docket. The public outcry over the video has thrust the case back into the spotlight, leading to renewed calls for justice.
MEC Macie and Councillor Nhlapho have vowed to personally oversee the progress of the case to ensure the victim receives the justice she deserves. “Our women have endured enough suffering at our hands; it is time to say enough is enough,” stated MEC Macie during the visit. He emphasized the role of men in ending violence against women and urged the community to speak out against perpetrators.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that a dedicated team of investigators is working in close collaboration with prosecutors to ensure the case is promptly returned to court for prosecution.
This visit underscores the government’s ongoing efforts during Women’s Month to highlight and address the challenges facing women, including the pervasive issue of gender-based violence.
