Taverns urged to tighten security measures
March 5, 2024The James Mayinga Foundation’s U/19 Football tournament in Bushbuckridge, Thulamahashe left a permanent mark on the community, empowering dreams and fostering talent. In December 2023, male and female players from across Mpumalanga converged for this remarkable event, backed by generous sponsorships from Coca-Cola, Blue Ribbon, Roots Butchery, Bushbuckridge Sports Council, and Bushbuckridge Municipality.
Each team received exclusive Mikasa Soccer balls, pre-game water provisions, and post-game sandwich platters, ensuring a memorable experience. The foundation’s commitment extended beyond the pitch, providing volunteers and ball boys with daily warm lunches, and fostering a sense of community.
The champions and runners-up, both male and female teams, received cutting-edge soccer kits from Diski Sports and merchandise from dedicated sponsors, a fitting reward for their efforts.
However, the tournament’s impact transcended trophies and accolades. Representatives from Pretoria Callies FC and Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) were present, scouting for talent. In a remarkable feat, 11 boys and 4 girls were selected for tryouts, with 4 boys securing coveted spots – one on the Moroka Swallows Diski Challenge Team, another at Pretoria Callies FC (Motsepe Foundation Championships), and two at TUT.
“Empowering Dreams: The James Mayinga Foundation’s U/19 Football Tournament Leaves Lasting Impact,” said a foundation representative, beaming with pride. “While some players continue their matric studies, we remain committed to their development, providing opportunities to train with varsity teams during school holidays.”
The James Mayinga Foundation looks ahead with excitement, promising to host annual tournaments, and their commitment to uplifting the youth through sports remains unwavering.
