February 5, 2024Police in Mpumalanga swiftly arrested two suspects shortly after an armed robbery at a post office in Mangweni Friday morning.
Around 7:10 am, armed men entered the post office, held employees at gunpoint, and stole cash from the safe after tying up the victims. The robbers fled in a VW Golf.
A tip from a concerned citizen about the getaway car allowed police to corner the suspects in Naas, Nkomazi. Two men aged 26 and 39 were arrested. Police recovered the stolen cash, a firearm and ammo, paramedic uniforms, and cable ties.
The seized gun was reportedly stolen in a 2023 burglary. It will undergo testing to link it to other crimes. More charges may come as the investigation continues.
Lieutenant General Manamela praised the quick police response and public cooperation leading to the arrests.
The suspects will appear in court Monday on possession of suspected stolen goods, an unlicensed firearm, and possibly the robbery itself. Justice was swiftly served due to vigilance and teamwork.
