Alexandra Finally Gets Long-Awaited Clinic

After more than 40 years of waiting, Alexandra residents finally witnessed history being made today, 18 September 2025, when the Mpumalanga MEC for Health and the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality held the sod-turning ceremony for the long-promised Alexandra Clinic. The event drew loud cheers, tears of joy and sighs of relief from a community that has fought for this moment for decades.

The MEC reminded residents that the project was pledged earlier this year during the State of the Province Address. “By next April, the building process will be done. We encourage community members to visit the clinic regularly,” she said, promising that this time the government would deliver.

For many, the news was overwhelming. “I feel happy that what they are doing here, they are doing it for us as the Ward 5 community,” said local resident Mxolisi Khumalo. “Now we can finally walk to the clinic. We used to catch taxis to Oakley or Marite, which are both far from us.”

Traditional leader Kgoshi LM Mokoena described the clinic as a dream finally becoming reality: “This community has been asking for a clinic for over 40 years. We will monitor the project to make sure nothing disturbs it.”

Ward Councillor Sabelo Mkhabela confirmed that 16 local workers have already been employed on site. “Since the dawn of democracy, we have been longing for this clinic. We are happy that it is finally happening,” he said.
