October 14, 2024Following a shooting incident on 10 October 2024, where two individuals were shot, resulting in one fatality and another victim currently in critical condition, police have arrested three suspects. The suspects, aged between 25 and 44, were taken into custody on 11 October 2024 and face charges of murder and attempted murder.
The arrests came as police heightened their presence in the Nkomazi area, near Komatipoort, to address ongoing tensions and ensure public safety. Police are conducting a thorough investigation, and additional resources may be deployed if necessary to stabilize the situation.

The three suspects will appear in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court in Tonga on 14 October 2024. The confiscated firearms, two rifles and a pistol will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether they were involved in any other criminal activities. Police have not ruled out the possibility of additional charges as the investigation progresses.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi commended the swift police response that led to the arrests and firearm recovery. He stressed that the arrests send a clear message that lawlessness will not be tolerated and the SAPS remains committed to combating crime.
