Police and Community Search for Missing Bushbuckridge Man
November 5, 2024In a significant breakthrough, Mpumalanga SAPS arrested two suspects linked to an alleged kidnapping and robbery of a German tourist in Graskop on November 4, 2024. This success is attributed to the ongoing 2024/2025 Safer Festive Season Operation.
Reports indicate the suspects attacked the German tourist after he withdrew cash from an ATM at a local fuel station. A concerned citizen quickly alerted the police, who responded promptly. Acting on information that the suspects were in a Hyundai SUV, law enforcement officers intercepted the vehicle. The suspects were apprehended in nearby bushes, and the victim was rescued alive, though injured.
The Hyundai SUV, reportedly a rented vehicle, has been seized and is now part of the investigation. Authorities are considering additional charges, including potential links to other crimes involving the same vehicle.
Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the swift actions of the officers, emphasizing the importance of community collaboration in ensuring public safety. He urged vigilance and applauded the effective response, especially given the tragic murder of a German tourist in October 2022.
Investigations continue as SAPS seeks to bring justice in this case.
