January 18, 2024“It was a great sadness to end the show, but a great pleasure to do it,” remarked Trevor Noah.
Noah made history by winning Outstanding Talk Series at the 2023 Emmys for The Daily Show – the first victory in the category since Jon Stewart departed in 2015.
The long-delayed awards honoured TV’s best on Monday, months after Noah exited as host in December 2022. He joked about ending Last Week Tonight’s domination of the variety talk section.
“Succession” dominated drama categories including writing, directing and best series. “The Bear” led comedy awards while “Beef” took limited series honours.
Noah is the first Black recipient of the Outstanding Talk Series Emmy. In an era of political chaos and misinformation, his incisive satire and commentary anchored The Daily Show’s return to Emmys glory.
The wins provide a fitting capstone to Noah’s impactful tenure on Comedy Central’s acclaimed late night fixture. As he passes the baton to new hosts, his Emmy cements the legacy of his groundbreaking run.
“It was a great pleasure to do it,” Noah remarked while accepting the honour. After seven years of redefining the show’s voice, he can now add Emmy winner to his trailblazing resume.
