April 24, 2024Premier Mtshweni-Tsipane unveiled an in-patient treatment centre aimed at combating drug substance abuse in Delmas, within the Victor Khanye Local Municipality. The centre, established by the Mpumalanga Provincial Government, addresses a pressing need highlighted by research revealing a high prevalence of substance use disorder across various settlements in the Nkangala District.
Targeting male youth above 18 years and adult service users, the centre offers rehabilitation services on both voluntary and involuntary bases. Staffed by professional nurses, social workers, and youth care supervisors, the facility provides a range of services including drug testing, health screening, drug awareness campaigns, and patient treatment.
Premier Mtshweni-Tsipane emphasized the government’s long-standing commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals, spanning the 30 years of democracy. The establishment of the Nkangala in-patient treatment centre signifies an extension of these efforts, reaffirming the government’s role as a welfare state dedicated to the well-being of all citizens.
Accompanying the Premier during the unveiling were MEC for Social Development, Ms. Lindiwe Ntshalintshali, and Executive Mayors Cllr. Thomas Ngwenya and Cllr. Vusi Bhuda of the Nkangala District and Victor Khanye Local Municipality, respectively.
The unveiling took place on Monday, 15th April 2024, at the Nkangala In-Patient Treatment Centre, located within the Victor Khanye Municipality in the Nkangala District. This initiative marks a significant step forward in addressing substance abuse and promoting the health and well-being of individuals within the community.
