According to information, as police members were conducting vehicle control checkpoint a BMW was pulled over. Upon searching the vehicle, 25 rolls of dagga were found loaded in the boot of the car. The recovered dagga is estimated at above R144 000.
Two suspects were also arrested, a man (37) from the kingdom of Eswatini and a 40- year-old South African citizen for dealing in dagga at Dumberton in Waverly on Sunday.
Both suspects were arrested on charges of dealing in dagga. An additional charge with regard to Contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa was laid against the suspect. Investigators are working in collaboration with officials from the Department of Home Affairs to ascertain his status in the country.
The dagga and the vehicle (valued at R350 000) driven by the suspect taken in for further investigation.
In a separate incident, Border Policing members deployed on Operation Vala Umgodi nabbed a 28-year-old man from the kingdom of Eswatini on the R570 Road in Buffelspruit outside Malelane on Sunday after he too was found with large sums of cannabis.
The suspect is facing a charge of dealing in dagga and the weight of the dagga he was found with, is at about 9 kg’s. The confiscated dagga is at a street value of about R37 800-00.
The suspect was one of the taxi commuters and when asked of his passport, he failed to provide the necessary documentation for him to be in South Africa.
On this matter also, Police are working together with officials from the Department of Home Affairs to ascertain his status in the country. Meanwhile the suspect has been charged for Contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has commended members for their unwavering commitment in squeezing the space for peddlers in the province.
The suspects are to appear separately in court. The two that were arrested in Waverly are expected to appear at the Mayflower Magistrate’s Court on Monday , whilst the suspect arrested in Buffelspruit is also expected to appear at the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court also today.
