March 14, 2024A tragic incident unfolded during a morning prayer service at a local church, leaving a 38-
year-old priest dead after being shot twice in the head by an unknown assailant. Police
spokesperson, Malesela Ledwaba, provided chilling details, stating, “Initial findings suggest
that following a morning prayer session with members of the church, the victim proceeded to
the changing room where he was followed by an unknown male suspect. Tragically, the
suspect shot the priest twice in the head before fleeing the scene.”
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, but Ledwaba confirmed, “The victim was swiftly
transported to a nearby hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival.”
The identity of the priest remains undisclosed pending notification of next of kin.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe, expressed

tragedy comes just days after AfriForum released an assessment document for churches to
tighten security measures, highlighting the vulnerability of religious institutions to such
