March 28, 2024Limpopo authorities have swiftly established a dedicated task team to investigate the deadly drive-by shooting incident that unfolded in Zebediela near Lebowakgomo on Tuesday. The tragic event claimed four lives and left seven others injured.
According to police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba, the incident involved suspects firing multiple gunshots from a white BMW and a black Mercedes-Benz toward several taxis along the route. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the attack.
The four deceased victims include two taxi drivers, one passenger, and an uninvolved passerby. Seven individuals sustained gunshot wounds, with four initially transported to the hospital and three others later arriving for medical treatment.
While details remain scarce, preliminary investigations suggest an ongoing feud over the Zebediela-Lebowakgomo taxi route as a potential motive behind the shooting.
Ledwaba assured the public that a comprehensive investigation is underway, with the newly formed task team dedicating its efforts to unravelling the circumstances surrounding the incident and apprehending the perpetrators.
As the investigation progresses, authorities urge anyone with information that could assist in the case to come forward and cooperate with law enforcement agencies. The tragic loss of life has underscored the urgency for swift action to restore peace and safety in the region’s public transportation sector.
