Storm Leaves trail of destruction in Nkomazi

Dozens of families from about six villages in Nkomazi have been left homeless after a heavy
storm ripped the roofs off their houses. Several people suffered injuries and were taken to
the hospital, while roads in the area were also damaged by the severe weather.

Among those affected is Maria Ndlovu, who lives with her unemployed husband and seven
children in Masibekela, southeast of Mbombela. Their home was one of the 58 houses
impacted in the village. Ndlovu’s children have lost their school uniforms and stationery,
leaving the family with no place to sleep and in desperate need of assistance.

“We ran and took cover in that small room, everything is damaged, we don’t even have food,
we have no blankets and beds, we are asking for help as no one is employed in this family,
we are dependent on the children’s support grant,” Ndlovu pleaded.

Another victim, Khethiwe Ngomane, shared that the roof of her family home was also blown
away by the storm. While they are now trying to put the roofing back, the damage has been
extensive.

The affected families in Nkomazi are now faced with the daunting task of picking up the
pieces and rebuilding their lives after the storm. With limited resources and some losing
almost everything, they urgently require support from relief organizations and the local
community.
