December 18, 2023Police are investigating the separate discoveries of two women’s bodies one found in Sand River on Wednesday and the other at Masoyi on Monday.
The body of Mampi Nelisiwe Shiba, 37, was found near her home in Masoyi outside White River on Monday morning. Investigators now consider her death to be murder. “There was a foul play hence a murder case was opened,” police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said in a statement Thursday.
Detectives are calling on anyone with information about Shiba’s death to come forward. So far, no arrests have been made.
The second woman, identified as 37-year-old Patience Mokoena, was found naked in the Sand River near Kamajika Village outside Hazyview on Wednesday. Police said Thursday they have no evidence yet suggesting foul play led to Mokoena’s death, though an investigation continues.
Provincial Police Commissioner Lt Gen Semakaleng Daphney Manamela said detectives are working hard to unravel the two mysterious cases. “Police will thoroughly investigate the cases without fear or favour to ensure that there is justice for the victims,” Manamela said.
