Finance Manager Accused of Scheme Leaking Confidential Report
December 12, 2023Guilty Plea in Drug Smuggling Wreck
December 12, 2023The Mpumalanga Department of Education issued an order requiring schools not to withhold learners’ report cards.
Section 29 (12) of the National Protocol on Assessments for Grades R – 12) informs this instruction, which bans both public and private schools from withholding report cards for any reason.
According to the regulation, a report card is the sole formal document used to provide feedback to parents on the achievement of learners.
It is for this reason that the Department further advises schools to ensure that the report cards are duly given to parents when schools close.
If a school refuses to provide a student’s report card for any reason, parents are encouraged to immediately file a complaint at the closest circuit office.
It is recommended that schools make use of various customary practices to guarantee that parents fulfil their responsibilities without affecting students.
Mr. Bonakele Majuba, the MEC for Education, also condemned the withholding of student report cards and urged school administrators to make sure that report cards sent to parents are error-free.
“Parents have the right to know about the cumulative performance of their children for the whole year, as such we hereby request schools to refrain from withholding the learner report cards for any particular reason,” said MEC Majuba.
