The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is urging beneficiaries to pay close
attention to notification letters sent by the agency, as these may contain crucial information
regarding changes that could impact their social grants.
According to SASSA, these notifications serve to inform beneficiaries about any alterations
that may affect their social grants. The agency emphasizes the importance of maintaining
accurate beneficiary addresses to ensure timely receipt of these notifications.
“It is the responsibility of a social grant beneficiary to notify the agency about any changes in
his/her circumstances, including changes such as marital status, financial, or medical
situation,” SASSA stated.
SASSA has issued a stern warning, highlighting that failure to cooperate during grant
reviews, engaging in fraudulent activities or misrepresentation leading to grant approval, and
neglecting to submit required documents could result in the suspension of the social grant.
“To avoid grant suspension, beneficiaries must report any changes mentioned above as
soon as possible. In cases where a grant is suspended, beneficiaries must initiate the
restoration process within 30 days of suspension,” the statement emphasized.
Restoration of a suspended grant typically occurs when it has been suspended due to failure
to collect for more than three consecutive months or failure to undergo a review.
As SASSA endeavors to ensure the smooth functioning of social grant programs,
beneficiaries are urged to promptly act upon any notifications received to avoid disruption of
essential financial support.
