October 7, 2024The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Bushbuckridge has made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of a fatal stabbing incident that occurred at a tarven in Collegeview during the early hours of October 6, 2024. A 25-year-old man, identified as Bright Mnisi from Mkhuhlu near Hazyview, tragically succumbed to his injuries at Mapulaneng Hospital shortly after the incident.
The police wasted no time in tracing and apprehending the 26-year-old suspect, who was arrested on the same day. His swift capture is attributed to the exceptional efforts of the SAPS members in the area. The suspect is expected to appear in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court on October 7, 2024, facing a murder charge.
While the motive behind the stabbing remains unknown, it is a critical part of the ongoing investigation by the police. Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, praised the diligence and determination of the police in apprehending the suspect so quickly. He also expressed concern over the prevalence of crimes associated with liquor outlets, urging liquor traders to adhere to safety regulations.
“We continue to work tirelessly to combat crime and bring offenders to justice. However, considering the timing of this incident, which reportedly occurred around 3:40 AM, questions arise regarding the liquor owner’s compliance with regulations. The SAPS is committed to ensuring justice is served for the victim and his family,” said General Mkhwanazi.
