Four Men Arrested in DJ Sumbody Murder
July 22, 2025The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Chrissiesmeer has successfully recovered 14 sheep that were reportedly stolen from a local farm. Police are currently searching for the suspects believed to be behind the theft.
According to the farmer who reported the incident, he regularly visits the grazing camp each morning to count his livestock. On the day in question, while conducting his usual headcount, he discovered that 14 sheep were missing. He promptly contacted the police for assistance.
Upon arriving at the scene, SAPS officers noticed that the fence had been cut – a likely entry point used by the thieves. A thorough investigation was immediately launched, which led the officers to a location near Warburton, approximately 25 kilometres from the farm.
At the site, the police found all 14 sheep tied up. The estimated value of the livestock is R35,000. The animals have since been returned to the rightful owner. However, the suspects are still at large.
Police are actively pursuing the perpetrators and have called on members of the public to assist. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Detective Captain Aziz Phiri on 082 556 5861. Alternatively, tips may be submitted via the SAPS Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or through the MYSAPS mobile app. All shared information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality, and callers may remain anonymous.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the swift and coordinated action by the Visible Policing (Vispol) members in Chrissiesmeer. He also praised the collaboration with the local wardens and the Stock Theft and Endangered Species (STES) unit, which led to the successful recovery.
“Stock theft continues to be a significant challenge, particularly in rural areas. However, with collaborative efforts and heightened awareness, we can win this battle. We urge our communities not to purchase stolen goods, especially livestock, as doing so fuels the illegal trade,” said Major General Mkhwanazi.
The SAPS remains committed to protecting the agricultural sector and ensuring that justice is served. Investigations continue.
