October 1, 2024Four Suspects Arrested for Stolen Eskom Cables
October 2, 2024Five male suspects, aged between 19 and 40, all Mozambican nationals, were arrested following the brutal hijacking and murder of Mr. David Mhletshwa Masombuka (64), the Divisional Manager of Communication, Marketing, and Branding at Nkangala District Municipality. The tragic incident occurred over the weekend, and the suspects are facing multiple charges, including murder, hijacking, and possession of suspected stolen property.
Masombuka was reportedly driving from Kwamhlanga to attend a meeting in Witbank on 29 September 2024 but never arrived at his destination. His family, after failing to reach him, reported him missing at Kwamhlanga Police Station and notified the tracking company, which led to the location of his vehicle near a fuel station in Witbank.
Swift collaboration between the tracking company and the South African Police Service (SAPS) resulted in the arrest of the suspects, who were found with personal items believed to belong to the victim. The police later discovered Masombuka’s body in the bushes next to a fuel station in Witbank.
Investigators are working with officials from the Department of Home Affairs to verify the legal status of the suspects, which could lead to additional charges under the Immigration Act of South Africa.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, condemned the incident while praising the swift actions of the integrated team. “The collaboration between the tracker company and SAPS was key in apprehending the suspects. We now await the legal process to bring justice for the victim,” said the General.
