September 25, 2024A swift response from the Nelspruit Flying Squad members led to the rescue of a kidnapping victim and the recovery of a hijacked vehicle, resulting in the arrest of one suspect (48) on 22 September 2024 at approximately 23:30.
While patrolling the N4 corridor, officers received information from a tracking company about a vehicle that had been reported hijacked. The victim was reportedly also kidnapped.
Acting on the tip-off, a team of SAPS officers and tracking company personnel traced the vehicle to Kabokweni. Upon realizing they were being followed, three suspects fled from the vehicle. The team managed to rescue the victim, who was found with his hands tied.
A search of the nearby bushes ensued, leading to the capture of one suspect, who was found in possession of the victim’s cell phone. The suspect now faces multiple charges, including car hijacking, kidnapping, and robbery.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court soon. Police are continuing the search for the remaining suspects and urge anyone with information to call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or submit tips via the MYSAPSAPP. All information will be treated confidentially, and callers may remain anonymous.
In a separate incident, Vosman police have launched an investigation into a hijacking and robbery that resulted in a murder on, 20 September 2024, at around 19:30.
According to reports, the 45-year-old victim was driving a company vehicle, a Toyota Hilux GD-6 Club Cab, when he stopped along the roadside in Hlalanikahle near Vosman. He was attacked by hijackers, assaulted, and robbed of his cell phone. Tragically, the suspects fatally shot the victim before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
Commenting on the Kabokweni incident, Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkwanazi, praised the swift action taken by the officers and the effective partnership between the police and the tracking company. “The police, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, are committed to creating a crime-free environment in the province,” said the General.
