Three Bodies Found in Mpumalanga, Police Seek Public Assistance
November 1, 2024Residents of Machadodorp’s Uptown flats, a low-cost housing unit owned by the Emakhazeni Municipality and managed by Emakhazeni Housing Management, are raising alarm over escalating violence. A recent shooting incident, in which a tenant was shot in the stomach during an alleged dispute with housing management employees, has deepened their fears.
The tenant, who requested anonymity, claims he was shot while trying to prevent an unauthorized electricity disconnection. He further alleges that the traumatic incident led his pregnant wife to miscarry. Despite police involvement, he expressed frustration over a lack of follow-up on his case.
Vusi Madonsela, a committee member representing tenants, says the issues go beyond this incident, citing a pattern of intimidation and violence over the last three years. He recounts the death of a fellow tenant following alleged harassment.
Police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdluli, however, denied claims of inaction, stating that two suspects were promptly arrested and will face court in early November.
Amid these serious allegations, Emakhazeni Housing Management has remained silent, with director Reggy Sindane offering “no comment.”
