Man Sentenced to Life for Killing Mother
November 17, 2025The Mpumalanga Department of Health marked a significant milestone on 17 November, when the MEC for Health, Ms Sasekani Manzini, officially launched the newly renovated Dental Unit at Phola Nzikasi Community Health Centre (CHC) in the Ehlanzeni District Municipality.
MEC Manzini was accompanied by MMC Morris Mazibane, local councillors and members of the Clinic Committee during the unveiling of this enhanced facility aimed at improving access to quality oral healthcare services.
Phola Nzikasi CHC, one of the busiest community health centres in the district, now features a fully upgraded dental unit offering a wider range of oral health services. These include tooth fillings, teeth cleaning and various treatments for oral and dental diseases, ensuring residents can access essential care much closer to home.
The renovation aligns with the broader provincial commitment to revitalising oral health infrastructure under the Mpumalanga Oral Health Strategy (2025–2034) and supports the vision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Officials noted that strengthened primary healthcare facilities are central to improving long-term health outcomes for communities.

The project’s success also reflects effective collaboration between the Health Technology Unit and the Oral Health Programme, which has helped reduce unnecessary hospital referrals, boost staff morale and improve the overall patient experience. The upgraded unit is expected to serve as a model for integrated, people-centred oral healthcare across the province.
Speaking at the launch, MEC Manzini emphasised the importance of accessible dental services. “Our people will no longer need to travel long distances to access dental healthcare. These services are now at their doorstep,” she said. “The department will continue to strengthen the quality of healthcare delivery, particularly at primary healthcare level.”
