On Monday, March 18th, 2024, Mpumalanga Education MEC Bonakele Majuba conducted a school infrastructure improvement monitoring visit to Litho Secondary School in the Nokaneng Circuit of Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality. The visit coincided with Human Rights Day celebrations across the country this week.
For MEC Majuba, upgrading school facilities and creating favourable conditions for teaching and learning is a fundamental human rights issue that must be prioritized. “As we celebrate Human Rights Day, let us also celebrate the government’s quest to create conditions that are favourable for teaching and learning,” he stated during the visit.
Litho Secondary School recently underwent major renovations including the demolition of dilapidated classrooms, a laboratory, and the administration block. Rehabilitation work was carried out on 14 classrooms, while two new classroom blocks, an administration block, and a library were constructed.
Further upgrades included improvements to the septic tank system, covered walkways, increased parking space, water reticulation overhaul, and electrification upgrades to ensure a reliable and efficient learning environment.
Touring the refurbished facilities, MEC Majuba took stock of the completed work and encouraged the local community to reciprocate the investment by maintaining the infrastructure to empower learners to reach their full potential.
“We appreciate this investment at Litho Secondary School and the bright future it promises for the people of Nokaneng Circuit and beyond,” Majuba remarked.
Grade 12 learners at the school were particularly excited, having received tablets to enhance their learning experience. They vowed to work harder and live up to their potential in the improved educational setting.
Under the rallying cry of “No one is being left behind,” the infrastructure overhaul at Litho Secondary forms part of a broader “Rhandza Xikolo Xa Wena” (Fix Your School) campaign by the provincial education department to uplift school facilities across Mpumalanga.
The monitoring visit by the MEC aimed to ensure proper implementation and assess the impact of such initiatives in creating equitable access to quality education for all learners in the province.
