February 9, 2024During the month of June 2018, information was received that Sifiso Joshua mashika (42) was pretending to assist the complainant when he stole her bank card.
The Mashika was searched and found in possession of the stolen bank card. He was arrested and detained.
The conviction followed after the accused was arrested by the Middelburg based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation for Theft at Klipfontein FNB branch.
The matter was referred to the Hawks for further investigation. Investigation was finalised and the accused was sentenced on Thursday, 8 February 2024 by the Emalahleni District Court.
The accused was sentenced to a fine of R8000, 00 or 2 years imprisonment of which R6000, 00 or 1 year is suspended for 5 years on condition that the accused is not convicted of theft during the period of suspension.
He is also declared unfit to possess a firearm by the courts.
The Provincial Head of the Hawks Major General Gerber applauded the team for ensuring that justice prevailed.
He further said that, criminals should know that the HAWKS will ensure successful convictions no matter how small or complicated cases may be.
