March 18, 2024ANC challenges registration of MK party in court
March 18, 2024The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has condemned the African National Congress (ANC) for what it calls ” desperate, propagandist tactics ” ahead of the upcoming elections on May 29, 2024.
The IFP accuses the ANC of labelling its members as ” bloodletting warlords and hoodlums” in response to an alleged incident of violence at a government event in KwaCeza, KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday. While the ANC alleges that IFP supporters were responsible for injuring some of its members, the IFP denies these claims, stating that no evidence has been provided.
” The IFP condemns all forms of violence, we welcome any police investigation that would lead to apprehending the perpetrators in this unfortunate incident and we wish anyone injured a speedy recovery,” the statement reads. ” But we reject the ANC’s baseless claims when they were in fact the ones busing in their rent-a-crowd .”
The IFP further accused the ANC Women’s League of ” losing the plot ” by invoking the ” painful past of black-on-black violence ” during the apartheid era, suggesting that this ” war-mongering tactic ” amounts to reckless rhetoric. The party vows to lodge a formal complaint with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) over the matter.
Responding to the allegations IFP National Spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa stated, ” No amount of propaganda, hate or lies will change that. We stand for prosperity, peace and unity in diversity.” He called on the ANC to embrace these values for the sake of stability and peaceful democratic elections.
As the election campaign intensifies, political tensions in the KwaZulu-Natal province appear to be rising.
