October 25, 2024A gun battle broke out in a Sabie plantation on 24 October after the police K9 Unit received a tip-off about a group of suspicious individuals clad in blankets.
Upon arrival, officers encountered approximately 15 people, who are suspected to be Lesotho nationals. As the police approached, the group opened fire, prompting a retaliatory response from the officers. The ensuing exchange of gunfire led the suspects to flee deeper into the plantation, where they managed to evade capture.

Subsequent searches of the area revealed a significant cache of weaponry and ammunition. Among the items recovered were various firearms, including an AK47 automatic assault rifle and a .38 Special revolver. The discovery also included a large quantity of ammunition, comprising 500 rounds of 7.62mm AK47 ammunition, 1,065 rounds of 7.62mm AK47 tracer ammunition, 65 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 177 rounds of 7.62mm R1 ammunition, and 184 rounds of .38 Special ammunition.

No injuries have been reported, and investigations are ongoing as authorities continue to search for the suspects.
