December 20, 2023Two citizens of Zimbabwe were detained after they were accused of faking an armed robbery story to hide stealing from their employer. However, efficient police work exposed the lies.
Margaret Ndlovu, 23, and Tladiwa Madzokere, 19, had claimed unknown gunmen held them up and robbed cash from the Belfast casino where they work.
But as officers questioned the dubious story, “it became clear to them that something was not making sense,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.
An investigation soon revealed the pair themselves allegedly pilfered money and tried framing nonexistent robbers.
“The two allegedly took money from the business for themselves and used it for their own benefit then opened a case instead to cover their tracks,” Mohlala stated.
Both now face perjury charges for the fabricated accounts of being crime victims.
Provincial Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Semakaleng Daphney Manamela applauded investigators for catching on to the alleged ruse.
“We would like to warn people that whoever takes a chance to open a false case will be dealt with accordingly,” Manamela said.
