A 34- and 35-year-old couple was taken into custody by Mpumalanga police on suspicion of possessing ammunition, steroids, and restricted medication. The Hawks Secunda members who carried out the bust did it on Friday.
The Hawks provincial spokesperson, Warrant Officer Thandi Tshabalala, said the arrest happened as a result of a police search warrant that was carried out at Secunda’s Driesfontein Street. The seizures of prescribed drugs and steroids were the main targets of the operation.
A chemist was asked to help identify all of the pharmaceuticals that the members found during the operation, according to Tshabalala. The chemist attested to the existence of several steroids and prescribed drugs. Furthermore, seven rounds of rifle and 12-gauge ammunition were also found.
Tshabalala added that some of the controlled medications and related substances are often used by underage children in the province.
“Anabolic steroids are a significant concern in the Gert Sibande area and need urgent attention,” she emphasized.
