January 22, 2024Bafana Bafana got their Africa Cup of Nations campaign back on track by demolishing Namibia 4-0 on Sunday. Thirty-four-year-old Themba Zwane, once deemed too old for international duty, scored twice in the dominant win.
Zwane netted in the 25th and 40th minutes. Percy Tau converted a penalty in the 14th minute before Thapelo Maseko added a goal in the 75th.
The victory propels South Africa to second place in Group E, just one point behind leaders Mali. It followed an opening loss that made beating Namibia a must.
“We knew we had to win the game to progress,” said coach Hugo Broos. “After the first goal, we settled.”
Bafana showed poise by rebounding strongly from their initial defeat. The commanding result restores confidence ahead of their final group match versus Tunisia.
With qualification hopes renewed, the veterans led a clinical performance. Zwane’s brace proves class is permanent as Bafana aim to book a knockout spot.
